Swallow a camera instead of a tube: new study for elderly patients

NCT ID NCT06029608

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study will test a magnetically-controlled capsule endoscope—a pill-sized camera—to check the stomach after surgery in 120 elderly patients or those with other health conditions. The goal is to see if this less invasive method is as safe and effective as traditional endoscopy. Participants will swallow the capsule, and doctors will guide it with magnets to look for complications.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

magnetically-controlled capsule gastroscopy

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer a less invasive way to check the stomach after surgery, especially for elderly or frail patients.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage observational study, so results may not apply widely. The capsule might miss some complications or cause discomfort.
