Summary

This study explores whether a structured survivorship care visit, conducted early in cancer treatment, can help reduce psychological distress and improve quality of life. Adults with any type of cancer who report significant distress will meet with a physician assistant to discuss their emotional, physical, and practical needs. Participants complete questionnaires about distress and quality of life before the visit and again two weeks and one month afterward to track any changes.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

structured survivorship care visit

What this could lead to

If effective, this approach could become a standard way to address emotional distress early in cancer care, improving patients' well-being during treatment.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early study with only 15 participants, so results may not apply to all cancer patients. The benefit may be minimal or not last beyond one month.
