Scientists hunt for genes behind hearing loss in child cancer survivors

NCT ID NCT02425397

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 04, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study looked at 119 children who had been treated with platinum-based chemotherapy for certain cancers. The goal was to find genetic differences that make some children more likely to develop severe hearing loss from these drugs. By analyzing DNA from saliva samples, researchers hope to identify high-risk children so that doctors can adjust treatment or develop preventive measures in the future.
