ER ultrasound may replace CT scans for some belly pain patients

Summary
This study looks at whether emergency doctors can use a quick bedside ultrasound to rule out a blocked small intestine. About 667 adults with belly pain and a low or medium chance of blockage will get an ultrasound first, then a CT scan to confirm. If ultrasound works well, many patients could avoid the radiation, cost, and wait time of a CT scan.
