First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 29 times
Summary
This study looked at whether doing heavy resistance exercise before a period of leg immobilization (like being in a cast) can protect muscles from shrinking. 64 healthy younger and older adults had one knee immobilized for 7-10 days, then did 4 weeks of exercise. Half also exercised before the immobilization. The goal was to understand how prehabilitative exercise might prevent muscle loss and atrophy.
