Could your own blood heal your jaw after a tooth extraction?

NCT ID NCT07585123

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a substance made from a patient's own blood, called platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF), can prevent a serious condition called jawbone death after tooth extraction. The trial will include 40 people at high risk due to past radiation or certain medications. Half will get L-PRF in the extraction socket, and half will get standard care, with healing checked over a year.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) made from the patient's own blood

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a simple, low-cost way to prevent severe jawbone damage in people who have had radiation or take certain bone medications.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early feasibility trial with only 40 people. It may not show a clear benefit, and the results may not apply to all patients.
