Health card data may guide UTI treatment
NCT ID NCT02292160
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looked at whether information from national health insurance cards—like past antibiotic use and hospital stays—can predict if a person's urinary tract infection will be resistant to common antibiotics. Researchers analyzed data from over 1,100 patients with community-acquired UTIs. The goal is to help doctors choose the right antibiotic from the start, without waiting for lab results.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors choose the right antibiotic faster for urinary tract infections, reducing ineffective treatments.
What could go wrong
This is a pilot study, so results are preliminary. The prediction method may not be accurate enough for real-world use.
