Pedal away dementia? home cycling trial targets Alzheimer's prevention
NCT ID NCT04748861
Summary
This study is testing whether 18 months of high-intensity indoor cycling at home can slow or delay brain changes linked to Alzheimer's disease in healthy older adults who carry a specific genetic risk factor. Researchers will compare 150 sedentary participants aged 65-80, with half using a Peloton bike three times a week and the other half continuing their usual activities. The goal is to see if this specific exercise program can protect memory and brain structure in people at higher genetic risk before symptoms appear.
