Could a common supplement shield your heart from dirty air?

NCT ID NCT03314987

Summary

This study tested whether taking a dietary supplement called carnosine could protect people from the harmful effects of air pollution on their heart and blood vessels. About 300 adults from the Louisville area with naturally low carnosine levels took either carnosine or a placebo pill daily for 12 weeks during high-pollution months. Researchers measured blood and urine samples and heart health markers to see if the supplement reduced pollution-related stress on the body.
