Immunotherapy-Chemo cocktail aims to tame stomach cancer
NCT ID NCT03813784
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This Phase 3 trial tested whether adding the immunotherapy drug camrelizumab to standard chemotherapy, followed by camrelizumab plus the targeted drug apatinib, helps people with advanced stomach or gastroesophageal junction cancer live longer. The study enrolled 885 participants who had not received prior treatment for advanced disease. The goal is to see if this combination improves overall survival compared to chemotherapy alone.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
camrelizumab (an immunotherapy drug) combined with capecitabine and oxaliplatin (chemotherapy), followed by camrelizumab plus apatinib (a targeted therapy)
What this could lead to
If successful, this combination could offer a new first-line treatment option that helps people with advanced gastric or GEJ cancer live longer and control their disease better.
What could go wrong
This is a Phase 3 trial, but results are not yet published. The combination may cause significant side effects, and not all patients may benefit, especially those with low PD-L1 levels.
