New vaccine targets common food poisoning bug
NCT ID NCT05500417
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This early-stage trial tested a new vaccine (CJCV2) designed to protect against Campylobacter infection, a leading cause of foodborne illness. Fifty-nine healthy adults received three different doses of the vaccine, with or without an immune-boosting adjuvant (ALFQ). The main goal was to check safety and see how well the vaccine triggers an immune response.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Campylobacter jejuni conjugate vaccine (CJCV2) with or without Army Liposome Formulation containing QS-21 (ALFQ) adjuvant
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a vaccine that prevents Campylobacter infection, a common cause of food poisoning.
What could go wrong
This is a very early Phase 1 trial with only 59 healthy adults, focused on safety and immune response. It is too soon to know if the vaccine will actually prevent infection in real-world settings.
