Can simple stretches help adults with cerebral palsy walk faster?
NCT ID NCT07293988
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at two different calf-stretching programs for adults with cerebral palsy who have tight calf muscles and walk slowly. Forty participants will be assigned to one of two stretching routines for one year. The goal is to see if either program can improve walking speed and muscle flexibility, and to understand how the muscles change.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Guided Self-Rehabilitation Contract (GSC) stretching program
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could point toward a simple, home-based stretching routine that improves walking speed and reduces muscle stiffness in adults with cerebral palsy.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The improvement may be modest, and the program requires a year of commitment.
