New scale could help prevent bedsores in intensive care
NCT ID NCT07454746
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested a Turkish version of the CALCULATE scale, a tool to predict pressure injuries (bedsores) in intensive care patients. Researchers followed 76 adults in the ICU, checking their risk daily with both the new scale and the standard Braden scale. The goal was to see if the CALCULATE scale is accurate and reliable for use in Turkish ICUs.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If the scale proves valid and reliable, it could give ICU nurses a better tool to spot patients at risk for pressure injuries, helping prevent them.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-center study with only 76 patients. The scale may not work as well in other hospitals or countries, and it does not test any new treatment.
