Calcium shield: simple IV could stop dangerous blood pressure plunge during common heart treatment

NCT ID NCT05661942

Summary

This study tested if giving calcium before a standard heart rate medication (diltiazem) could prevent a dangerous drop in blood pressure. Researchers compared calcium to a placebo in 92 emergency room patients with a fast, irregular heart rhythm. The goal was to make a common treatment safer by reducing its main side effect.
