First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 32 times

Summary

This study tested whether a high-dose vitamin D medication called calcitriol, given alone without phosphate supplements, can improve blood phosphate levels and bone health in people with X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLH). Sixteen children and adults with XLH took calcitriol for one year. Researchers measured changes in phosphate levels, kidney function, rickets severity, and growth in children. The goal was to see if this simpler treatment could work without causing kidney calcifications.
