Heel fracture study: which surgery works best?

This study compares two surgical treatments for severe, shattered heel bone fractures (Sanders type 3 or 4). One group gets standard surgery to fix the bone with plates and screws; the other gets that plus a fusion of the subtalar joint. The goal is to see which approach leads to better foot function and pain relief. About 40 adults with recent fractures will take part.
