Coffee as medicine? caffeine shows promise for rare movement disorder

NCT ID NCT04351360

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study looked at whether caffeine can reduce involuntary movements in people with a rare genetic condition called ADCY5-related dyskinesia. Fifteen participants who already used caffeine were surveyed by phone about changes in their symptoms. The goal was to see if at least 40% improvement occurred, but the study was small and based on patient reports, not a controlled trial.
