Gut-Targeted treatment shows promise for taming type 1 diabetes

NCT ID NCT03999853

Summary

This small study tested whether delivering butyrate—a natural compound—directly to the colon could help people with type 1 diabetes. Researchers wanted to see if this approach could make the body respond better to insulin and lower blood fat levels. Six adults with type 1 diabetes took the special tablets for eight weeks while their insulin sensitivity and triglyceride levels were measured.
