New burst brain zaps could ease tough facial and stroke pain

NCT ID NCT05204472

First seen May 09, 2026 · Last updated May 11, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests a new way to stimulate the brain (called Burst-DBS) to see if it reduces chronic pain after a stroke or from nerve damage in the face. About 20 adults with severe, long-lasting pain will try both the new burst method and standard continuous stimulation to compare which works better. The goal is to find a more effective treatment for people who haven't gotten relief from other options.
