New burn navigator software aims to prevent fluid overload in severe burns
NCT ID NCT07307599
First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated Jun 24, 2026 · Updated 33 times
Summary
This study tests a computer program called Burn Navigator that helps doctors decide how much fluid to give adults with severe burns (covering at least 20% of the body). The software uses real-time data to adjust fluid rates every hour. Researchers will compare it to the standard Parkland formula in 62 patients to see which approach leads to better fluid balance and fewer complications like swelling or organ damage.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Burn Navigator decision-support software (device)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a more precise way to manage fluids in burn patients, reducing complications like fluid overload or shock.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 62 participants, so results may not apply to all burn patients. The software may not outperform standard care in real-world settings.
Conditions
