Could buprenorphine replace opioids for elderly fracture patients?

NCT ID NCT07430345

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 30, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study compares buprenorphine to a standard opioid (hydromorphone) for pain relief in adults aged 65 and older who come to the emergency department with a broken bone. Researchers want to see if buprenorphine works just as well but causes fewer side effects like nausea, confusion, or breathing problems. About 48 participants will receive one of the two drugs and report their pain and any side effects over 48 hours.
