Safer pain relief for seniors? new study tests alternative to opioids

NCT ID NCT07430345

Summary

This study is testing if a medication called buprenorphine works as well as standard opioid painkillers for older adults who come to the emergency room with a broken bone. Researchers want to see if buprenorphine controls pain effectively while causing fewer side effects like nausea, confusion, or breathing problems. They will compare it to another opioid by giving one of the two drugs to 48 participants and tracking their pain and any side effects for two days.
