Can a steroid spray restore lost smell in COVID patients?
NCT ID NCT04361474
First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 23 times
Summary
This study tested a budesonide nasal spray in 120 adults who lost their sense of smell after COVID-19 and still had the problem 30 days later. The goal was to see if the spray could improve smell scores after 30 days of treatment. The approach is based on the idea that persistent smell loss may be due to inflammation, and local steroids could help without the risks of systemic steroids.
