Timing of lung wash could be key for kids with severe pneumonia
NCT ID NCT07437183
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether the timing of a lung washing procedure (bronchoalveolar lavage) helps children with severe pneumonia recover faster. About 3,168 children will receive standard care plus the procedure at different times. Researchers will track how quickly they need less breathing support, how long they stay in the hospital, and any side effects like bleeding or low oxygen.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
bronchoalveolar lavage (a procedure to wash the lungs with a thin tube)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could establish the best time to perform lung washing in children with severe pneumonia, potentially speeding recovery and reducing hospital stays.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study that has not yet started recruiting. The procedure carries risks like airway bleeding or low oxygen, and results may not apply to all children.
