Summary

This trial tests whether a culturally adapted program called BRIDGES can help Puerto Ricans with serious mental illness get better preventive care. Participants receive monthly sessions with healthcare managers who focus on care coordination and reducing stigma. The goal is to see if this approach improves access to services like check-ups and screenings, potentially reducing chronic disease disparities.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
A culturally adapted behavioral intervention with monthly sessions led by healthcare managers to improve care coordination and reduce stigma.
What this could lead to
If effective, this program could reduce chronic disease disparities and improve preventive care access for people with serious mental illness in Puerto Rico.
What could go wrong
This is a behavioral intervention, so results may vary by participant engagement. The trial is not a drug study, and its success depends on consistent participation and healthcare system support.
