Breathe easy? study tests if patients do better without breathing tube during lung surgery

NCT ID NCT07395375

Summary

This large study aims to find out if a newer anesthesia method, where patients breathe on their own with a mask and nerve blocks, is as safe as the traditional method using a breathing tube and ventilator during a specific type of lung surgery. It will enroll about 1,600 patients having surgery to remove small lung nodules. The main goals are to first confirm the newer method is safe, and then to see if it leads to a better recovery with less pain and fewer side effects in the first day after surgery.
