First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study tests whether two types of breathing exercises can reduce symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in adults. 51 participants will be randomly assigned to either a volume-oriented incentive spirometry group, a diaphragmatic breathing exercise group, or usual care. They will practice breathing twice daily for 6 weeks, and researchers will measure changes in symptoms and esophageal function at week 7.
