Zapping the spine to breathe again: new hope for spinal injury patients

NCT ID NCT07135583

Summary

This study is testing a new, non-surgical approach to help people with long-term spinal cord injuries breathe better. Researchers are combining gentle electrical stimulation on the back with special breathing exercises that use low-oxygen air. The goal is to 'wake up' the nerves that control breathing muscles and make therapy more effective. They are also looking for biological markers in blood and saliva to predict who might benefit most from this treatment.
