Breathing exercises show promise for asthma patients with breathing problems
NCT ID NCT03127059
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looked at whether breathing exercises can improve quality of life for adults with asthma who also have dysfunctional breathing (a pattern of breathing that causes shortness of breath). About 190 adults with poorly controlled asthma took part. Half received usual care, and the other half learned breathing techniques (like the Papworth Method and Buteyko technique) in 3 sessions with a physiotherapist and practiced at home for 10 minutes twice a day. The main goal was to see if their asthma-related quality of life improved after 6 months.
