Doctors test if Patient's breath holds clues to survival in ICU

NCT ID NCT07454057

Summary

This study aims to understand if tracking a natural gas in a patient's breath (exhaled carbon monoxide) over time can help doctors predict how well a critically ill patient will recover. Researchers will measure this gas daily for up to a week in 220 adult ICU patients and see if certain patterns are linked to outcomes like survival, organ problems, or need for blood transfusions. This is an observational study, meaning it only involves measuring and collecting data; it does not change the patient's normal medical care.
