First seen Nov 21, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This study tested whether trained peer counselors—mothers who previously breastfed a preterm baby—could help new mothers of preterm infants breastfeed longer. About 1,774 families in European NICUs took part. The program included weekly face-to-face support during hospital stay and phone support after discharge. The goal was to see if this approach improves breastfeeding rates and health outcomes.
