New study aims to cut opioid use in breast reduction surgery

NCT ID NCT07527039

First seen Apr 17, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study tests whether a special nerve block (PECs II) given during breast reduction surgery can control pain as well as standard narcotic painkillers, but without the side effects and risks of opioids. About 80 women having breast reduction will be split into two groups: one gets the nerve block plus non-narcotic pain meds, the other gets standard care with narcotics. Researchers will track pain levels and how much narcotic medication is used in the days after surgery.
