Scientists give adults breast milk sugars to fight antarctic health woes

NCT ID NCT06133530

Summary

This study is testing whether special sugars found in human breast milk (HMOs) can help keep people healthy during long, isolated stays in Antarctica. Researchers will give 26 healthy volunteers either the HMO supplement or a placebo to see if it improves their gut bacteria, immune function, blood sugar control, and mood. The goal is to see if this supplement can counteract the negative health effects of extreme environments like high altitude and social isolation.
