New ultrasound trick could spare women unnecessary breast biopsies
NCT ID NCT07465523
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing a new way to use Doppler ultrasound to better tell the difference between benign (non-cancerous) and malignant (cancerous) breast lumps. Researchers will measure blood flow resistance in the lump and compare it to healthy breast tissue. If the method works, it could help doctors decide which lumps need a biopsy and which do not. The study involves 90 women with solid breast masses who already have pathology results.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a non-invasive way to more accurately distinguish between benign and malignant breast lumps, potentially reducing the need for biopsies.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 90 participants. The method may not prove reliable enough for widespread use, and results may not apply to all breast mass types.
