Ultrasound may spare breast cancer patients from unnecessary surgery
NCT ID NCT04854005
First seen Jan 12, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 12 times
Summary
This study looks at whether using ultrasound before surgery can help identify early-stage HR+/HER2- breast cancer patients who have only a few affected lymph nodes. If so, they may be able to avoid a more invasive procedure called ALND, which removes many lymph nodes and can cause side effects like arm swelling. The goal is to see how often doctors can safely skip ALND by relying on a less invasive sentinel lymph node biopsy instead.
