New device aims to improve breast cancer surgery precision
NCT ID NCT04397185
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 06, 2026 · Updated 28 times
Summary
This study tested a new device called the Breast Cancer Locator (BCL) against the standard wire localization method for guiding breast-conserving surgery in women with non-palpable breast cancer or DCIS. The goal was to see if the BCL could achieve similar or better rates of clear surgical margins while potentially removing less healthy tissue. 480 women participated across multiple centers, and the results will help determine if the BCL is a safe and effective alternative.
