Brain implant offers hope for children born without hearing nerves

NCT ID NCT02310399

Summary

This study is testing a special hearing device called an auditory brainstem implant (ABI) in children who are completely deaf due to missing or damaged inner ears or hearing nerves. These children cannot benefit from standard hearing aids or cochlear implants. Researchers will implant the device in up to 20 children and monitor their safety and hearing progress over three years to see if it helps them develop speech perception.
