Brain stent trial aims to relieve pressure, save vision

NCT ID NCT06919744

Summary

This study is testing if placing a small stent (a tiny mesh tube) in a narrowed brain vein, along with standard medication and weight loss advice, works better than just the medication and advice alone for people newly diagnosed with idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH). IIH causes high pressure in the head, leading to vision loss, severe headaches, and ringing in the ears. Researchers will randomly assign participants to one of the two treatment groups and check their progress over a year to see which approach is more effective at reducing pressure and improving symptoms.
