MRI brain training offers new hope for untreatable depression

NCT ID NCT03428828

Summary

This study tested whether a special type of brain training using real-time MRI scans could help people with depression that hasn't improved with standard antidepressant medications. Participants learned to increase activity in a brain area linked to positive emotions while recalling happy memories. Researchers measured whether this training reduced depression symptoms in 60 adults who had not benefited from at least two previous medication attempts.
