Scientists test unusual brain scan to detect hidden consciousness
NCT ID NCT07208942
Summary
This study is testing whether a new brain scan method can better diagnose consciousness levels in patients with severe brain injuries who can't communicate. Researchers will use rectal stimulation while measuring brain activity to see if this approach can distinguish between different states of consciousness more accurately than current methods. The goal is to help doctors make more precise diagnoses for patients who appear unresponsive but might have some level of awareness.
