Scientists scan brains to see if opioid overdoses leave a lasting mark

NCT ID NCT05651516

Summary

This study aims to understand if opioid use disorder, especially after a non-fatal overdose, is linked to changes in tau protein in the brain—a protein often associated with other brain diseases. Researchers will compare brain scans from three small groups: people with opioid use disorder who have had an overdose, those with the disorder who haven't, and healthy individuals without the disorder. The goal is to gather knowledge about how opioid use affects the brain, not to provide treatment.
