Scientists zap brains to unlock speech memory secrets

NCT ID NCT04497428

Summary

This Yale University study aimed to understand how different parts of the brain help us form lasting memories for speech movements. Researchers used a safe, non-invasive magnetic stimulation technique on healthy adults right after they practiced speaking with altered feedback. The goal was to see if temporarily quieting specific brain areas could block the memory of the new speech skill, testing the idea that both hearing and touch-sensing brain regions are involved in locking in motor memories.
