Scientists scan brains to unlock why alcoholism strains relationships

Summary

This study aims to understand how severe alcohol use disorder affects a person's ability to read social cues and interact with others. Researchers will use brain scans (MRI) and track daily social interactions via smartphone to see how these social difficulties are linked to brain structure and the risk of relapse. The study will include 60 people, half with severe alcohol use disorder and half without, to compare results.
