Scientists scan brains to see how surgery rewires facial paralysis

NCT ID NCT06809127

Summary

This study aimed to understand how the brain changes after surgery for severe facial paralysis. Researchers used a special, non-invasive brain scanner (MEG) on 16 patients before and after their facial surgery. They measured brain activity while patients made facial movements and looked at pictures of emotional faces to see if surgery improved both movement and emotion recognition.
