Scientists scan brains to unlock secrets of traumatic memories

NCT ID NCT02810197

Summary

This study aimed to understand how the brain processes traumatic memories and why some people develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Researchers followed survivors of the 2015 Paris terrorist attacks, along with a comparison group, using brain scans and psychological tests over several years. The goal was to see how the brain's ability to control unwanted memories relates to recovery or ongoing distress after trauma.
