Brain pacemaker trial offers hope for untreatable stroke pain

NCT ID NCT06387914

Summary

This Oxford University study is testing whether a surgically implanted 'brain pacemaker' (deep brain stimulation) can safely reduce severe, long-lasting pain that sometimes follows a stroke. The trial will enroll 30 adults who have had this debilitating pain for at least two years and have not found relief from other treatments. Researchers will carefully compare different stimulation settings to see which works best for pain control over a 10-month period.
