Scientists zap brains to create artificial sight for the blind

NCT ID NCT02747589

Summary

This early study is testing whether stimulating the brain's vision center with an implanted device can create artificial visual sensations in people who are blind. Researchers are working with 5 blind volunteers to find the right brain location and stimulation level needed to produce these sensations. The goal is to gather basic information that could help design future devices to restore some vision.
