Brain pacemaker trial offers hope for debilitating balance disease
NCT ID NCT07325487
Summary
This study is testing a new 'adaptive' brain stimulation device for adults with spinocerebellar ataxia type 6 (SCA6), a rare genetic disorder that causes worsening problems with balance and coordination. Five participants will have a device surgically implanted in their brain to see if it can safely detect and automatically adjust stimulation to help control their movement symptoms. The main goal is to see if this approach is feasible and safe, while also checking for early signs that it might improve walking, balance, and daily life over a two-year period.
