Brain zaps may ease breathlessness, small study hints

NCT ID NCT05623696

First seen May 23, 2026 ยท Last updated May 23, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether a painless magnetic pulse to the front of the brain (rTMS) can reduce the feeling of breathlessness in 21 healthy adults. Participants breathed air with extra carbon dioxide to trigger moderate air hunger. The goal was to see if rTMS over the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex lowers breathlessness ratings, which could guide future treatments for people with lung or heart disease.
