Brain waves may predict ventilator weaning success

NCT ID NCT03372252

First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study looked at whether measuring tiny brain signals during a breathing test can help predict if a patient in the intensive care unit will successfully come off a breathing tube. Researchers monitored 70 intubated patients as they breathed on their own for a short trial. The goal was to see if these brain signals could forecast which patients would pass the test and stay off the ventilator for 7 days.
